I have depicted Virudaka, one of the Four Heavenly Kings. Virudaka’s Sanskrit name means “the one who has grown and expanded,” and among the Four Heavenly Kings—who are said to guard the four cardinal directions of the Buddha’s realm—he is responsible for protecting the south.
